Frank Waters, writer and editor, was born July 25, 1902, at the foot of Pike's Peak, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His father, who was part Cherokee died when Frank was 12 years old. It was his father who initially sparked Frank's interest in Indian culture. Waters attended Colorado College (Colorado Springs) from 1922-25 as an engineering student. Etta Blum was born in 1908 in New York City. She attended Hunter College and Columbia University and for years worked for the New York City Board of Education. She published two books of poetry (Poems and The Space My Body Fills) as well as translating from Yiddish, poems and short stories written by her husband, Eliezer Blum-Alquit.
