The Rydal Press began as a small operation in a private house in Rydal, Pennsylvania. It was owned and operated by Walter L. Goodwin, a member of the Lippincott family. In 1932, Haniel Long, Alice Corbin, Peggy Pond Church, and Witter Bynner came together and decided to establish a cooperative publishing enterprise in Santa Fe. Edward McLean was born in Victor, Colorado, in 1905 and spent many years in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He had three careers - that of a dancer, a master bookbinder, and a publisher. His publishing company, Libros Escogidos, published three books: Fifteen New Mexico Santos (1941); Vicente Silva and his 40 Bandits (1947); and Three Letters from St. Louis (1958).
