Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in England at Daresbury, Cheshire, to Charles Dodgson, an Anglican clergyman, and his wife Frances Jane Lutwidge on January 27, 1832. In 1851, Dodgson matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1855 was appointed to a mathematical lectureship in that college, of which he remained a member for the rest of his life. Florence Becker Lennon (1895-1984) was born in New York City. She received a Bachelor's degree in anthropology at Columbia University and a Master's degree in education at the University of Colorado. A poet and author, she published four books of poetry including "Forty Years in the Wilderness", and a biography of Lewis Carroll, "Victoria Through the Looking-glass: The Life of Lewis Carroll.
