Theobald Smith (1859-1934) was Professor of Applied Zoology, and later Professor of Comparative Pathology at Harvard University from 1895 to 1914. Smith was a pathologist and parasitologist who first proved that insect hosts spread certain diseases to humans. His research also differentiated between bovine and human tubercle bacilli, and showed that vitamin difficiencies can lead to diseases in humans.
