Albert Whiteley was born in Caroline County, Maryland, on March 6, 1817, the son of William and Elizabeth Whiteley. After graduating from Delaware College, he attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (now part of Thomas Jefferson University), from which he graduated in 1839.
