The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 as a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to "promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children." The Michigan State Society of the DAR was founded in 1900. Individual local chapters of the DAR had been formed as early as 1893.
