Alumnus J. Kenneth Munford was a member of the Oregon State University faculty from 1939 until his retirement in 1977, with breaks for military service and further education. The first graduate degree at Oregon State was conferred in 1875. In 1910 the Committee on Advanced Degrees (known as the Graduate Committee) was established. Gordon V. Gabrielson worked for the U.S. Bureau of Biological Survey from 1915 to 1940, becoming Chief in 1934. In 1940, the Survey became the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Gabrielson served as director until 1946. From 1946 to 1970, he served as President of the Wildlife Management Institute, then as chairman of the Board from 1970 to 1977. Edwin Thomas Reed was born in River Falls, Wisconsin on September 15, 1872. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1895 with a B.S.
