Peace Lutheran was formed in the fall of 1976 from a nucleus of members of an LCMS congregation in Burns during the height of the LCMS controversy. The LCMS congregation, First Lutheran, was made up of a former merger in 1969 of an ALC congregation in nearby Hines and LCMS members of First Lutheran in Burns.
