Lewis Morris first served as a member of Governor Cornbury's Council for the province of New Jersey. Due to conflict with Cornbury, Morris was removed and, later, elected to the New Jersey Assembly. James Alexander was a lawyer in New Jersey and New York during the eighteenth century. Born in Scotland in 1691, Alexander fought in the Rebellion of 1715, which resulted in the exile of the Stuarts from England.
