Maya Chowdhry was born in Edinburgh, and grew up in Scotland. Her career began in filmmaking, but she moved on to publish short fiction, poetry and plays. She is an interactive artist and uses interactive and digital media to make her work more participatory, and has used the internet to make her work more accessible.
