Samuel Enderby Jnr. was born in 1756 in England, the son of Samuel Enderby (1720-1797), who had established the whaling and sealing firm of Samuel Enderby &Sons. During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, Enderby vessels made profitable voyages to both northern and southern waters. In 1791, he arranged for whalers to carry convicts to Port Jackson, Australia in the Third Fleet.
