Frederick Denison Maurice (1805-1872) was born at Normanston, near Lowestoft, on 29 August 1805. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1823, and transferred to Trinity Hall in 1825. He decided to take orders, and entered Exeter College, Oxford, in 1830. He was ordained deacon in 1834, and priest in 1835, and became curate of Bubbenhall, near Leamington.
