This series consists of informational and educational films produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and silent footage not used in the completed films. Topics covered in the films include the history of the space program, the navigation of vehicles in space, a review of the Gemini and Apollo programs, tours of NASA facilities, awards ceremonies, NASA’s accomplishments in its first ten years, photographic missions to the moon, the history of the Apollo 11, and the development of rocketry. The films also include reviews of some of the aeronautical research activities of NASA, particularly those related to the history of supersonic flight research, particularly the X-15 experimental aircraft; and reviews of the knowledge gained in research done for the space program in areas like weather forecasting, large transport planes, safety tires, artificial hearts, and miniaturized electronics. There are scenes featuring Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson along with astronauts John Glenn, Gordon Cooper, and Alan Shepard, among others.
