Annie Russell began appearing on stage at a very young age, partially as a result of her family's financial troubles. She achieved her signature role as a teenager as Esmeralda; health problems and an unstable marriage forced her off the stage, but she was able to come back. After retirement she taught at Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla.
