The F.W. Woolworth Co. was started by Frank W. Woolworth on June 21, 1879 when the "Great 5c Store" opened in Lancaster, Pa. In 1912 Woolworth's merged with S.H. Knox Co. and 4 others, all of which became part of the F.W. Woolworth Co.
