Biographical note: Architects; Roy Place came to Arizona in 1916 and designed many University of Arizona buildings as well as the Pima County Courthouse, Pioneer Hotel, Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind, Tucson Medical Center, and others. The firm was originally Lyman and Place, from 1919 to 1924, then Roy Place from 1924 to 1940; then Roy's son, Lew Place, joined the firm in 1930, became a partner in Place and Place in 1940, and managed the firm after his father's death in 1950. Lew designed several University of Arizona buildings as well as Pueblo, Rincon and Salpointe High Schools, and other buildings.
