Suffolk County Historical Society
A stars and stripes flag of Captain John Hurlbert of the 3rd Regiment of Bridgehamton, N.Y. is said to have been made seven months before tradition tells that Betsy Ross made hers. The flag was supposedly used during the capture of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775.

The Utopian community Modern Times was founded in 1851 by Josiah Warren, a Boston reformer and social philosopher. The community declined and, in 1864, changed its name to Brentwood.
