Dunn, Jacob Piatt, 1855-1924
Variant namesJacob Piatt Dunn was a prominent journalist, historian, and political figure as well as Secretary of the Indiana Historical Society from 1886 until his death in 1924. He practiced law in Indianapolis for three years then moved to Colorado where he started writing for newspapers. He returned to Indianapolis in 1884 to practice law. He did so for four years until taking a job with the Indianapolis Journal. He later worked for three other local newspapers. He is best known for writing several books about Indiana history.

In 1913, while president of the Public Library Commission of Indiana, Dunn attempted to organize a society for the preservation of Indian languages. This society was to undertake as its first publication a translation into modern Miami and English of the Peoria-French dictionary and texts attributed to Father Le Boulanger.
