Organized in 1790 as the Congregational Church of Christ in Middlebury or the Church of Christ in Middlebury; in 1807 the Society of the Church of Christ in Middlebury was incorporated to administer the church's material and financial concerns; this later became the Religious Congregational Society and records of the two organizations were kept separately and operated separately. There may have been several name changes until 1964 when they united to form the Congregational Church of Middlebury, Vt.
