Bartlett, Edward L.
Variant namesBartlett served as Adjutant General of the Territory of New Mexico under Governor Sheldon and Governor Ross from 1883-1889. He served as Solicitor General of the Territory of New Mexico from 1889-1895 and 1897-1904. He also served as chairman of the Santa Fe Council, member of the Santa Fe Board of Education and was twice as president of the Santa Fe Board of Trade. He founded the New Mexico Bar Association and was prominent in Republican Party politics serving as Chairman of the Territorial Republican Central Committee for two consecutive terms. He was ex-officio member of the United State Land Commission Board (of Public Lands) and is recognized as having compiled the first set of laws for New Mexico.

Edward L. Bartlett (1847-1904) served as Solicitor General of the Territory of New Mexico from 1889-1895 and 1897-1904. He also had a private law practice in Santa Fe and was a founder of the New Mexico Bar Association.

According to the seal on one of the documents, Edward L. Bartlett was U.S. Court Commissioner for the Territory of New Mexico, in Santa Fe. Other documents indicate that, as a lawyer, he held power of attorney for the various owners of these mines.
