American College and Education Society
American Society for Educating Pious Youth for the Gospel Ministry established in 1815; in 1820 name changed to American Education Society; in 1874 it united with the Society for the Promotion of Collegiate and Theological Education (founded in 1843 as Society for the Promotion of College and Theological Education in the West) to form American College and Education Society; in 1894 this absorbed the New West Education Commission and changed its name to Congregational Education Society; Congregational organization headquartered in Boston, Mass.
