Resident of Morris (South Farms), Litchfield County, Conn.; graduate of Yale; served as a lieutenant during the American Revolution and taken prisoner at Germantown. After the war, founded Morris Academy, a coeducational institution, as well as the first library in Litchfield in 1785.
