Emma Cecilia Thursby (1845-1931) was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jane Bennett and John Barnes Thursby. Her siblings were Alice, John, Louis, and Ina. A singer of international reputation, Emma also taught a number of sucessful pupils and was active with the Green Acre religious and philosophical community.
