Wightman Fletcher Melton (September 26, 1867-November 10, 1944) was the son of Rev. Isaac Quimby and Fanny Louise (Ellis) Melton. He was born at Ripley, Tennessee, graduated from Peabody College, Nashville in 1889; A.B., Blount College, Blountsville, Alabama, 1890; Ph. D., Johns Hopkins, 1906. He married Oliver Keller on September 19, 1889. He taught at various colleges and was professor of English language and literature at Emory University, 1908-1924. Besides The Rhetoric of John Donne's Verse (1903), he published The Preacher's Son (1894), Chimes of Oglethorpe (poems) in 1933, and edited and contributed other works. He was poet laureate of Georgia, 1943.
