New York cable department, Nov. 1940; sent to Europe in Dec. 1940, covering WWII from Bern, Madrid, London, North Africa, Ankara, Rome, Athens, Belgrade, and Sofia; published "The Balkans: Frontier of Two Worlds" with Frank O'Brien, 1947; head of European Public Relations for UNICEF, Paris, 1949-1950; began twenty-year career with USIA as Press Officer for U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, 1951-1953; Press Officer for U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, 1954-1956.

Married first to Frances Guignard Gibbes Keith (1913-2001), daughter of Oscar Lovell Keith (1882-1935) and Frances Guignard Gibbes (1870-1948); two daughters, Frances Guignard Gibbes King (1932-1948), and Margaret "Marnie" Rives King (1935-1980); married second to Fay Cornelia Ball (1909-1986); brother of Margaret "Mary" Langston King (1907-1978).
