Alex Trocchi, author of CAIN'S BOOK, was an American living in the United Kingdom. He was one of the organizers of the Edinburgh international writer's conference.

Scottish novelist and editor; b. 1925; d. 1984. Trocchi founded and edited Merlin, a literary magazine published in Paris from 1952-1955. Throughout the 1950's and 1960's he collaborated with Maurice Girodias of the Olympia Press, and was a contributor, under various pseudonyms, to the Olympia Travelling Companion Series. Trocchi was active in promoting the International Situationist movement, and organized a collaboration of underground movements, which he called the Sigma Project. He is best-known for his novel Cain's Book, as well as other work concerned with his lifelong drug use, chiefly heroin.
