David Hume (c.1757-1838) trained in Scots law at Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities and was admitted as an advocate in 1779. He became professor of Scots law at Edinburgh University, and later was also principal clerk of session, and finally baron of the exchequer. His lectures on private and criminal law were well attended, cited in court, and he eventually published commentaries on Scots law. He was the nephew of David Hume, philosopher.
