Active throughout her life in public health nursing, Mary Sewall Gardner directed the Providence District Nursing Association from 1905-1931, helped organize the National Organization for Public Health Nursing and was its president 1913-1915, served in Europe under the Red Cross during world War I, and helped to organize public health nursing internationally in the post-war years.
