Steck, Michael.
Michael Steck was born in Hughesville, Pa., on October 6, 1818. After graduating from Jefferson Medical College he practiced medicine in Pennsylvania before accepting an appointment as Indian agent for the Mescalero Apache in southeastern New Mexico. In 1863 he was appointed Superintendent of Indian Affairs for New Mexico. After retiring from the Indian Service he engaged in gold mining in New Mexico. He died on October 6, 1880 in Virginia.
