Professor of economics and industrial relations, arbitrator and mediator.

Dr. Theresa Wolfson (Ph.D., economics, Brookings Graduate School, 1926) was professor emerita of economics and labor relations at Brooklyn College where she taught for most of her academic career (1929-1972). Prior to receipt of her Ph.D., Wolfson served as a field agent and investigator for the National Child Labor Committee (1918-1920), as executive secretary of the New York State Consumers' League (1920-1922), and as chief factory inspector and educational supervisor for the garment industry's Joint Board of Sanitary Control (1922-1924). Following the conclusion of her graduate education, Wolfson served as educational director for the Union Health Center of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) (1924-1927) and taught at Hunter College. Her experience with the ILGWU gave Dr. Wolfson a lifelong interest in workers' education and she taught at Brookwood College, Bryn Mawr Summer School and in summer schools for office workers at various locations. Dr. Wolfson's dissertation, later published, was on the noted 19th century social reformer and feminist, Frances Wright. In the course of her work on Wright, Wolfson accumulated a number of original Wright manuscripts which form part of her papers. In addition to her academic career, Wolfson worked as an arbitrator and mediator, primarily in the chemical, machinery and newspaper industries, and served as a public panel member of the War Labor Board for Region II.
