Anti-Imperialist League (Boston, Mass.)

Hide Profile

Formed to oppose imperialism generally, and particularly American imperialism in the Philippines, the League grew rapidly, so that affiliated organizations were set up in several major cities within a few years after 1898. In 1899, the Chicago branch (Central Anti-Imperialist League) was designated the national coordinating office, and its name was changed to "American Anti-Imperialist League"; in the same year the Boston group changed its name to "New England Anti-Imperialist League". Other branches included the New York and Washington A.I.L.'s, and the "American League of Philadelphia". In 1904 the "New England A.I.L." changed its name to "Anti-Imperialist League."
