Manson, Thomas Walter, 1893-1958
Variant namesThomas Walter Manson (1893-1958), biblical scholar, was born at North Shields, Northumberland, on 22 July 1893. He was educated at Tynemouth Municipal High School and Glasgow University before attending Westminster College and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he studied oriental languages. He was ordained in 1925, and was the Presbyterian minister of Falstone, Northumberland, 1926-1932. Manson was Professor of New Testament Greek, Mansfield College, Oxford, 1932-1936, and Professor of Biblical Criticism, Manchester University, 1936-1958. He died at Milnthorpe, Westmorland, on 1 May 1958.
