Journalist; Feminist; Political activist; Co-founder, Ms magazine; Co-founder, Women's Action Alliance; Co-founder, Ms Foundation for Women; Co-founder, National Women's Political Caucus.

Born 1934; graduated Smith College, 1956; received post-graduate 2 year fellowship to study in India, where she absorbed grass roots organizing skills from followers of Gandhi. In 1960, moved to New York City; worked for Help! magazine; wrote freelance for Life, Esquire, Glamour, and other newspapers and magazines. Co-founded New York magazine, 1968 and was its political columnist until 1972. Founded and edited Ms. magazine and collection of her Ms. articles published in a best selling book, Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, 1983; contributing correspondent for the 'Today Show, ' beginning 1986. Active in civil rights, labor, and peace movements, 1960s-70s; participated in political campaigns of Adlai Stevenson, Robert Kennedy, Shirley Chisholm, and others; founded and co-founded Ms. Foundation for Women, The National Women's Political Caucus, Voters for Choice, The Women's Action Alliance, and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. Published Marilyn, 1986; Revolution from Within, 1992; and Moving Beyond Words, 1994. Continues to write and lecture extensively; has received numerous awards and honors, including for her writing, the Front Page, Clarion, and Penney-Missouri journalism awards.
