Nelson Diaz is a Philadelphia attorney who served on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas (1981-1992) and as general counsel for the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (1993-1996).

In addition, he has been highly active in the Hispanic and overall Philadelphia community as an activist, businessman and journalist. He has served on numerous boards and committees in the Philadelphia area, such as the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Independent Charter Commission (1992-1993), the Girard Independent Committee and Temple University Hospital. Diaz has participated in numerous organizations such as various youth groups, the Philadelphia Commission on AIDS, the William Penn Foundation, and the Puerto Rican Week Festival, as well as teaching at the Temple University School of Law.
