Belden, Jack, 1910-
Variant namesJournalist Jack Belden (1910-1989) served as a foreign correspondent in China before and after World War II. He covered the Sino-Japanese War for United Press, International in the 1930s. War reporting assignments took him to Burma, North Africa and Italy for such publications as London Daily Mail, London Daily Herald, Time, and Life Magazine. Belden returned to China in 1946 to write about the Chinese Civil War. He authored three books on Asia: Retreat with Stilwell (1943), Still Time to Die (1944), and China Shakes the World (1949). Belden retired and lived in Europe beginning in the 1950s and died in Paris in June of 1989.
