Dr. William S. Dix (1910-1978) was Princeton's University Librarian from 1953-1975, a period of rapid growth within the University library system. Concurrently during this time, Dix served as president of the Association of Research Libraries (1962-63) and the president of the American Library Association (1979-1970). A respected figure in the world of libraries, Dix was frequently sought out as a consultant by universities and other cultural organizations. He did much work with UNESCO and was a member of the National Commission on New Technological Uses of Copyrighted Works.
