Mary E. “May” Dwight was born in Spokane in 1895, a daughter of Spokane real estate investor, Daniel Dwight. She attended Washington State College and the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago. She spent most of her life writing short stories and poetry, painting, and caring for her aged father. Her poems and short stories were published in local literary magazines.
