Daryl Lindsay was born in Creswick, Vic. in 1890. After serving in France during World War I he returned to Melbourne and launched himself as an artist. From 1941 until 1956 Lindsay was Director of the National Gallery of Victoria. He also served on the N.C.D.C., the Commonwealth Art Advisory Board (1953-1971) and the Commonwealth Stamp Board. He was a foundation member of the Victorian National Trust. Lindsay was created a Knight Bachelor in 1956. Publication, The leafy tree: my family (1965).
