Composed 1937. First performance (of Toccata only) in a broadcast New York, 24 February 1938, the WOR Symphonietta, Alfred Wallenstein conductor. Pastorale and Tempo di Valse first performed Saratoga Springs, New York, 11 September 1938, at the Fifth Yaddo Chamber Orchestra, Richard Donovan conductor. Composers note: the order of the movements should be reversed. Rewritten 1940 as Three pieces for flute, viola and harp.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
