William Churchill De Mille (1878-1955) was an American playwright, producer and director. He wrote a number of stage plays and produced them with David Belasco from 1902 to 1914 before becoming one of the pioneers of the motion picture industry. He founded the drama department at the University of Southern California and taught there until 1953.
