Benjamin Edward Stiles and William Henry Stiles were sons of Joseph Stiles (1758-1838), a rice planter who moved to Savannah, Georgia from Bermuda around 1769. Joseph Stiles married his first wife, Catherine Clay, in 1793 and his second wife, Margaret Vernon Adams, in 1828.
