Remy Charlip is the author and illustrator of children's books, in addition to working as an actor, dancer, producer, filmmaker, song writer, and choreographer. Among his awards are the Boys' Clubs of America Gold Medal (1967), New York Times Best Illustrated Books citation (1969, 1987), Bologna Book Fair (1971), the Bank Street College of Education Irma Simonton Black Award (1973), Boston Globe-Horn BOok Award (1976), Cooper Union School of Fine Arts Award for Professional Achievement (1988).

Remy Charlip was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He received a B.F.A. degree from Cooper Union and studied at a number of other institutions. He has worked in many different art forms and has received numerous awards for children's books that he wrote and illustrated. His children's books range from "simple reading exercise to elaborate word games to visually innovative narratives."
