Historian and civic worker (Ohio State University, Columbus, B.A., 1910) Schlesinger was chairman of the Committee on Education of the Cambridge (Mass.) League of Women Voters, on the board of the American Association of University Women of Boston, the Cambridge Public Library, and the Radcliffe Women's Archives (which became the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America), and wrote articles and gave talks on women's history. She married historian Arthur Meier Schlesinger; they had two sons.
