Gibson, William, 1788-1868
Variant namesGibson succeeded Dr. Philip Physick as chair of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 1819. Between 1824 and 1850 he published 8 editions of his treatise, Institutes and practice of surgery. He also wrote medical biographies.
