Jesse Root Grant was born January 23, 1794, in Westmoreland County, PA, the son of Noah and Rachel Grant. Jesse settled in Ohio where he operated a farm and tannery. He married Hannah Simpson on June 24, 1821 in Point Pleasant, OH. They had 6 children, the eldest being Ulysses S. Grant. In the 1860s Jesse served as postmaster in Covington, KY. He died there June 29, 1873.
