Ball, William, 1729-1810.

William Ball (1729-1810) was a merchant and silversmith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (There was another silversmith by the same name working in Baltimore at about the same time.) Ball was the son of Mary White and William Ball, who owned "Hope Farm" outside of Philadelphia. The younger William sold a variety of goods in his shop, as well as silver and gold. In 1771, William married his cousin Elizabeth Byles, the daughter of the pewterer Thomas Byles. After Byles' death, William took over his father-in-law's shop. The Balls had no children. William was a Grand Master in the Masonic organization in Pennsylvania.
