Biographical notes:

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit worked for Indian independence, and was active in the new Indian government. She was, by turns, governor, ambassador, and representative. She was Jawaharlal Nehru's sister, and Indira Gandhi's aunt; as a staunch supporteer of Mohandas Gandhi, she was imprisoned on several occasions.
