Herman E. Kroos was one of the leading American economic historians of his generation.
Kroos received his B.A. from Muhlenberg College in 1934 and his M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1935. He received his Ph. D. from New York University in 1947 and that year became an instructor in economics at NYU. Kroos was promoted to full professorship in 1955. In 1974 he was named one of NYU's "Great Teachers". Kroos was a delegate to the American Council of Learned Societies, the secretary-treasurer of the Economic History Association and a member of the Committee on Research in Economic History. He was the author of many books, articles and reviews. Kroos died on March 21, 1975.
