Milton Stern joined the University of Connecticut in 1958 as an assistant professor of English and remained with the institution until his retirement in 1991. Committed to the idea of making education available to adults, Stern proposed that the University create “Workday College” or “Network College,” which would consists of a series of flexible non-credit seminars aimed at the working adult population.
