Richard Armour, 1906-1989, was an American poet, humorist and author. He was also professor of English at Scripps College (Claremont, Calif.) from 1945 to 1963, dean of faculty at Scripps College, and member of the Board of Trustees at Claremont McKenna College.

Richard Armour was an educator, administrator, poet, and author. He was a professor of English at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate School, and contributed poetry and prose to more than 200 periodicals. In addition, he publihed over 60 books for children, young people and adults.

Richard Armour was born July 25, 1906 in San Pedro, CA. He began his education at Pomona College, receiving his bachelor's of arts, which lead him to Harvard University to pursue both his masters and his Ph.D. in 1933. Maintaining his pull in academia, Armour became a permanent fixture as a professor in colleges all throughout the country. He was dean of faculty at Scripps College, beginning in the 1960s. Author of over sixty books, Armour's contribution to the written world was indispensable. His prosaic and poetic pieces appeared in over two hundred periodicals, all the while writing the widely syndicated newspaper column "Armour's Armory". Richard Armour died in 1989.
